LATE MODELS Ostheimer wins second career Late Model race

MORGAN HILL, CALIFORNIA (April 20, 2012) 18 year-old Late Model racer Devon Ostheimer of Morgan Hill, CA won his second career Late Model feature on Saturday night, topping a nearly 40 car turnout to win at Havasu 95 Speedway as the undercard for that night's "Toyota / NAPA Auto Parts 150" weekend.  Ostheimer won against a field comprised of drivers from throughout the Southwest in front of a standing room only crowd at the quarter-mile asphalt bullring in Arizona.
Ostheimer finished sixth in the 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Models points at TOYOTA Speedway in Irwindale, CA, picking up a win in his rookie season.  Ostheimer previously raced winged Sprint Cars at his home track Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA before making the transition to pavement stock car racing.
Saturday's event was Ostheimer's first aboard the Team RBK (Race Cars by Kuhn) #5 Chevrolet and in his first time ever racing at Havasu 95 Speedway. (More)

MODIFIEDS Hicks wins dash, Finishes third in main event

Havasu 95 Speedway (March 28, 2012) When the green flag fell on the Hoosier Tire West/Sunoco Race Fuels 75, Tim Morse made very quick work of jumping into the lead and paced the field for the first circuits before being overtaken by Matt Hicks.
While Matt Hicks is certainly not a racing rookie, he was making his debut in a modified race car at this event. It was evident early on that he had figured out the transition. He was ranked fifth on the qualifying chart and then won the six lap Dart Machinery Trophy Dash along with the $200 bonus that comes with it.
It was apparent that the 24 year old driver wanted to collect his second win of the night by using a rock steady sense of rhythm with his lap times. Hicks led the field from lap three to 37. During this time of the race Austin Barnes was methodically working his way to the front. He only needed ten laps to advance his very fast modified from eighth to second.
There were only three caution flags in this race, due to minor single car incidents. Barnes caught a break from the first yellow flag, on lap 23, because it allowed him to eradicate the real estate between himself and the race leader. From that point it was a game of chase with Barnes working both the outside and inside racing lines trying to claim the race lead while Hicks did everything possible to prevent it from happening. On lap 36 the two leaders were now side by side with the capacity crowd cheering them on. Barnes found just enough racing room, on the lower groove in turn two, to complete what would..... (More)

LATE MODELS Johnson steals the top Spot in Qualifying

IRWINDALE, Calif (11-26-2011) A 15-car field used a five-car inverted start based on afternoon qualifying times. FQ Mike Johnson, of Covina, started fifth in his brand new RCF Chevy Monte Carlo. Kyle McGrady, the fifth quickest qualifier, started from the pole and led the first two laps before fourth starter Brandon Davis, the 2011 ACLM track champion, took command for good in the No. 55 High Point Racing ACS Chevy. M. Johnson took P. 2 from McGrady on lap 8. A debris caution took laps 11-14 to clear a body piece off the P. 4 No. 86 Eshleman Racing car driven by Partridge, who raced in all three of the long-distance races. He pitted briefly under caution and returned on the lead lap but in last position. By lap 40, Davis led Johnson by ten yards with P. 3 McGrady half a straightaway back and engaged in a close duel with late model rookie Austin Dyne in the HPR No. 59. Tenth starter Toni Marie McCray was fifth with Partridge, and K. Smith in a three-way battle 20-yards.... (More)
